Are you thinking about living here???

See this junkyard above? The owner has scammed quite a few people out of their deposits and rent. It started when some local bar owners tried to rent the space out then the Community Board rejected a liquor license for the location. Junkyard Joe decided he wasn’t going to pay back the $25,000 that he was legally bound to return based on the terms of the agreement. The court ruled against him to the tune of $27,000.
Flash forward to find a couple from the midwest who put down almost $4,000 in rent and security deposit only to have the “landlord” refuse them entry claiming because they didn’t have renters insurance they could not occupy the space. They also never got their money back.
Next victim, a tailor from Bushwick who rented the storefront only to find his sewing machines and other equipment unceremoniously dumped on the sidewalk less than a week after he moved in. That tailor lost about $3000 in the scam.
Most recently a girl rented the space, moved some of her belongings and a small kitten in. A few days later the kitten turned up crushed to death with Joe claiming a dog got in the building. She’s out around $3500 while Joe is trying to hold her to the lease. Her family also discovered all of the building violations and declared the junkyard a fire trap.
This flyer was recently circulated in the neighborhood by a disgruntled victim no doubt. A revised version of the flyer has alleged that he stole the house from his aunt. Property records indicate that the building was sold to Joe Loiacono for a mere $10 with the aunt retaining a life estate in the property, however she’s no longer in the neighborhood to get the real story.
